Though many of Disney's earlier shorts have much more disturbing images than the ones seen here, "The Skeleton Dance" brings back some of my earliest memories of being entranced by horror. I've always wondered what would happen if they stayed out past the crow of the rooster and put off their return to the grave.
Watching it now, I immediately think of "La Danse Macabre," the 15th century woodcut from Liber chronicarum depicting four dancing skeletons being led by Death:
